Welcome!
My name is Jennifer. I've been teaching Spanish for more than half of my life (GULP!). I'm a Michigan girl who has been wandering around the west coast. After living almost forty years in Michigan, my husband took a job in the San Francisco Bay Area and off we went. I loved living in the Bay but then we decided to give Oregon a try. Long story. I'll share one day. It rains there ALL the time! So we moved to Arizona. I got tired of the low pay and we are back in California.
I've taught face-to-face in public schools in Michigan, California and Arizona and an online charter school in Oregon. I began using TPRS years ago when Blaine Ray first started "touring" the country. He came to Michigan and I went to the workshop. That was it. I was hooked. I brought that with me to California, Oregon and Arizona and have now spread the use of Comprehensible Input through the districts I've worked in since! Even now with my online position, I use CI as often as possible.
Currently I am teaching 8th grade Spanish 1 (for high school credit) at Riverside Preparatory Middle School in Oro Grande, CA. I'm still new there but I love it already! The administration is supportive and my co-workers are friendly and helpful!
I love to travel. While in high school I was an exchange student in Finland and Germany. I studied in Spain and Chile while I was a student at CMU and I completed graduate credits from the University of Detroit Mercy in Brazil. I've traveled with students to Mexico and Puerto Rico. I've passed the love of travel on to my family. Our favorite family vacation was to Costa Rica. We also LOVE traveling in our RV. Two summers ago we drove over 9000 miles to Alaska. It was an amazing trip. When we returned from Alaska where it was cold, we spent a week in San Diego on the beach to warm up. Over Christmas break, we camped our way to Florida and back. My son joined the Marines a couple of years ago and now he's stationed in beautiful Hawaii. So that is our new go-to travel spot. Can you blame me?
Thank you for stopping by! I hope we can connect and share ideas!
